Study into Nurses’ Health, Wellbeing and Patterns of Workforce Participation
New Zealand nurses are invited to participate in a major web-based international study which aims to provide comprehensive up-to-date data to inform workforce policy and planning. Researchers from Massey University School of Health Sciences are collaborating with colleagues from the University of Queensland to track nurses’ health, wellbeing and patterns of workforce participation using on-line questionnaires. A survey will be posted each year to provide an ongoing data warehouse of information. |

This web-based study has a number of advantages over conventional surveys because
- it reduces the time lag between data collection and analysis so the information is up-to-date
- it reduces the potential for human error because participants enter the information directly into the data-base
- it can maintain contact through the www with participants wherever they live and work
- it can add in new questions in response to stakeholder requirements for knowledge
- it can look at issues relevant to one specialist group e.g. primary care nurses, A&E nurses, aged care nurses
By participating in this study, you will make an important contribution to nursing. The more nurses who join, the more accurate and comprehensive the study data will be to ensure quality workforce policy and planning. This has the potential to make our workplaces safer and healthier. Well staffed workplaces mean less work overload, stress, and burn-out. Research shows that this leads to less nursing attrition, increased job satisfaction and better patient outcomes.
