Hi! I acknowledge the depth of which "PAUA" has expressed the importance that NZNO and it's Runanga lead us towards a stable and workable NZNO Biculture Partnership. The organisation has been organised monoculturally in the past and this development will mean a greater input of Maori correctness in NZNO.

I fully support "PAUA" to be our vehicle to guide us on our pathways toward this Partnership which will enable NZNO Maori and Non Maori to stand side in by side to navigate NZNO on it's journeys.

Pai Marire Nuki

Jane O'Malley
President,
NZNO

PAUA is the latest in a series of important developments in NZNO’s journey towards a palpable commitment to principles of the Treaty of Waitangi as outlined in the 2001-2005 strategic directions document.  The BOD has had the privilege of consideration of the proposal for some time now and at the June meeting endorsed the project.  It may appear a big step for the organisation and we can’t pretend to fully understand what it means to work in a way that reflects the Treaty of Waitangi but we are agreed on a commitment to the ongoing development of a model for partnership. What NZNO is proposing is quite revolutionary in that it will hold a light to the structural impediments for Maori within NZNO; impediments that are mirrored in the New Zealand health care system and society.  The incorporation of a maori world view adds value and will create something that enriches our organisation.

Geoff Annals
CEO,
NZNO

At the 2001 round of Regional Delegates’ Conventions members gave a clear message they understood the importance of commitment to the Treaty to the organisational success of NZNO and the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders. I recall a delegate saying then, “We may not understand completely what it means to recognise and value the Treaty of Waitangi but we do know it is vital to all New Zealanders. Let’s just get on with it!” That member summarised the view of most NZNO members.

Heeding this call NZNO went on to reaffirm its commitment to the Treaty as our guiding document, put in place its Foundations for Partnership document and appointed Sharon Clair to the new staff position of Policy Analyst: Maori. The PAUA project builds on these key foundations to make our principled commitment to the Treaty concrete in all we do. It is all about just getting on with it! I encourage all members to take the opportunities that will be presented through PAUA to enrich yourselves with integrated Maori and Pakeha perspectives on life and work.
