Creation

Creation

The beginning is Io the parentless one, he is in the
light and the light in him
He created Rangi and Papa
and they clung to each other with such loving care
they shut out the light
their children all boys
were born into the darkness, and there were many
There was the light darkness, the dark darkness
and the pitch black darkness
the boys were raised in the many darknesses
Some of the boys names were Tuumatauengaa
Taanemahuta, Taawhirimaatea, Tangaroa,
Rongomaataane, Ruiamoko,
and the mighty trickster Maaui son of Taranga,

It was Taanemaahuta that separated their parents
and pushed their father to the realm above
The light shone down and day and night was created
as we know it today
A spiritual ladder was climbed by Taanemahuta
arriving onto the homestead in the sky

Io the parentless one was there with the three baskets
of knowledge, which were Tuuaauri, Tuuaatea
and Aronui
The Parentless Io
assured himself that Taanemahuta was the appropriate
messenger to return the three baskets of knowledge
down onto Papatuaanuku
and they became the tool for teaching manual labour
quality of speech and living correctness
From the clay of mother earth Taanemahuta
sculptured a likeness of himself
He breathed into every crevice and every part of the
the form and breathed the breath of life into it’s
nostrils and the form rose to be the first known women to Maaori mankind
her name is Hineahuone

Proverbs

I recall some of my granddads and grandmothers teachings.

“A towel for your face and a towel for your body
And do not use one for the other”  she would say.

“This is a stool to sit your bum on not for your food” she would say

“When someone dies during illness wait awhile
before taking any action sometimes allow
three hours to go before you think of moving the body
