Editors' Responsibilities

The co-editors or editor and associate editor are responsible for the overall planning and administration of Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand. They determine its content and style after discussion via monthly editorial planning meetings with NZNO professional and industrial staff. They have ultimate responsibility for the content of Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand and are responsible to the chief executive.

They reserve the right to accept or reject material in line with standards of quality, relevance, topicality and suitability.

Practice Article Review Committee

The practice article review committee is an ad hoc committee comprising a maximum of four nurses who are members of NZNO. Its role and function is an advisory one to comment and advise the co-editors on all clinical and research articles submitted for publication.
The committee meets via teleconference calls not less than every three months and, in conjunction with the co-editors, assesses the nursing suitability of the material for publication. The final say on whether to publish shall always rest with the co-editors.

The committee's statement of purpose is:

"Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand's practice article review committee is a group of nursing, midwifery and editorial experts who believe in the importance of giving voice to nursing and midwifery practice through publication of clinical and educational articles in Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand.

The committee independently reviews all submitted practice and education articles and makes recommendations on their suitability for publication. This process ensures the accuracy and relevance of articles, promotes the nursing and midwifery professions and stimulates professional debate. In its work, the committee is mindful of NZNO's commitment to partnership and the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi."

Practice article review committee members shall be representative of a cross section of nursing and geographical location. They shall be selected by the co-editors in conjunction with the board of directors and serve on the committee for three years with the right of renewal for another three.

The current members are:

• Sha Panapa, RN, is a nurse lecturer in sociology and cultural safety at Whitireia Community Polytechnic. Her specialty clinical area is Well Child health. She is the Te Runanga O Aotearoa NZNO representative. 
• Jane Hardcastle, RN, BSc, MEd, is a senior lecturer, Graduate Studies in Nursing, Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology. Her focus is critical care, distance and nursing education.
