The decision from the regulations review committee decision about the EN title

The report from the Regulations Review Committee regarding the complaint from NZNO regarding Notice of Scopes of Practice and Related Qualifications Prescribed by the Nursing Council of New Zealand has been released.

The Government's response to the Report of the Regulations Review Committee of 2 May 2007.

Correspondence with Hon Pete Hodgson

Following the release of the RRC report the National Enrolled Nurse Section Committee wrote to Hon Pete Hodgson. The National Committee received a reply from Pete Hodgson in August, who has stated that he has asked Ministry of Health officials for advice on the RRC report.

Following the 2006 Annual Conference the National EN Section wrote to Mark Jones, Chief Nursing Adviser, MOH about:

  • therewrite of the letter 2003 letter sent out by the Nursing Council of New Zealand and the Ministry of Health
  • countersigning of EN's notes by Registered Nurses
  • Scope of Practice for EN's in Mental Health in Australia
  • Exploration of introducing an Advanced Practice role for the EN
  • further discussion around the bridging processes, that are not available to ENs in seeking education towards a Bachelor of Nursing
