Meet our Journal Editor, Brenda Bruning

I am now employed as a Nurse Consultant Primary Health Care for Nelson Marlborough District Health Board, and provide nursing leadership, professional support and advice to all nurses working in primary health care in our district, inclusive of Aged Care and Maori Health. I have a strong interest in professional development and maximising the potential in all nurses. With my position within the DHB, I am able to contribute to the strategic planning and development of primary health care nursing services, and provide a voice for primary health care nursing. My post graduate studies will finally result in a Masters of Health Sciences (Nursing) in 2008.

I have been a member of the journal editorial committee since 2004, and have taken on the new role as eidtor following the conference in Tauranga. The journal is our voice, it is a mechanism to improve the visibility and contribute to the professionalism of primary health care nursing. It is a journal by nurses for nurses and a great opportunity to showcase the talents, skills and experience of nurses working in primary health care.

Brenda, 2008

Meet our Journal Co-Editor, Jane Ayling RN BN

I began my primary health care experience as a Practice Nurse at Golden Bay Medical Centre in Takaka, a mix of general practice and accident and emergency. Whilst undertaking post graduate studies I designed and developed a Men's Health WOF Clinic which gave me a greater understanding of the role that Practice Nurses can play in shaping the lives of their patients every day, as well as the contribution to primary health care and the goals outlined in the Primary Health Care Strategy. My post graduate pathway had me heading in the direction of Nurse Practitioner, but an opportunity to move into nursing leadership and management was an opportunity too good to miss.

Jane, 2009

Jane Ayling

Jane has worked in various primary health care roles for the past 18 years including palliative care, general practice and in professional, service development and quality improvement. Jane is also a relieving practice nurse, national assessor for CORNERSTONE (general practice accreditation) and board member of the Manawatu Primary Health Organisation. She is a current committee member of the New Zealand College of Practice Nurses NZNO Manawatu Division and a member of the Arohanui Hospice Community Reference Group.

Jane describes herself as being "passionate about primary health care and see my role as fostering wider primary health care teamwork and providing practical and tangible means for achieving this".
