The New Zealand Nurses Organisation fosters professional accountability for qualified nurses. An important component to accountability is the ongoing maintenance and development of professional knowledge and skills within the focus of practice.
Taking part in a professional development recognition programme (PDRP) is one way by which registered nurses may receive professional recognition of their advancing knowledge and skills within a speciality area of nursing practice. This process is proactive and provides positive direction. It is not intended as a punitive process.
PDRP was previously referred to as Accreditation on this site
This PDRP has been based on the NZ College of Practice Nurses Accreditation Programme, which has been successfully recognizing practice nurses since 1996! This current programme is based on the recommendations of the national PDRP working party (2009) and applications can be made for competent, proficient and expert levels.
-
Application is by written portfolio following the criteria set out in the PDRP manual
-
Applications close last day of March and August each year, late applications will be held over until the next meeting.
Initially the PDRP application process may seem overwhelming, however those who undertake the process find it affirming. Their advice? Work on your application over a period of time. It is also helpful to do this work with other nurses.
