Members of the New Zealand Resident Doctor’s Association (RDA) have voted to strike in support of their collective employment contract negotiations. The dispute relates to rostering practices, which are causing fatigue and are deemed to be unsafe by the RDA.
The strike is due to happen from 7am Tuesday 18 October until 7am Thursday 20 October.
Safety of patients will be foremost. Nurses and midwives appreciate that any strike action is disruptive to patients and will be working as usual within their professional scope to ensure patients receive the nursing care they require.
Senior doctors and specialist doctors will be significantly involved in the contigency operation during the strike. NZNO is keeping abreast of contingency planning.
