How do parties’ policies align with NZNO’s priorities?

The document below gives a snapshot of some policies of seven political parties, as at the end of October. It was published in the November 2011 issue of Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand.

Table comparing political party policies with NZNO’s priorities (PDF)

It does not include all the policies of the seven parties, as parties were still releasing policy at press time, and there is a good deal of crossover between some parties.

We encourage members to go to parties’ individual to get a comprehensive overview of other policies.

Other issues that affect nurses and nursing include:

  • asset sales
  • capital gains tax
  • the retirement age.

We encourage members to inform themselves and to vote well for a healthy future.

Referendum on the voting system

There’s a Referendum taking place at the same time as the 2011 General Election on 26th November.

It's your chance to have your say on the voting system we use to elect our Parliaments in the future.

In the Referendum, you will be asked two questions:

  1. do you want to keep MMP (which is the voting system we use at the moment) or change to another voting system?
  2. which of four other voting systems you would choose if New Zealand decides to change from MMP.

You will find everything you need to know to answer these questions on the Referendum website:

Public services keep New Zealand working

This election, the PSA is running a campaign to remind voters of the value of public services and what we all stand to lose.

If you believe in public services that work for the good of everyone, make your voice heard and your vote count this November. Public services keep New Zealand working.

Check out www.keepNZworking.co.nz for the facts on public spending, debt and public service cuts.
