Advice and Support for Members

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) provides professional and industrial advice to our members.

Workplace issues

The flow chart below outlines the process for resolving workplace issues.

Once you have identified an issue, please contact your workplace delegate or section representative - they will triage your call. If you don't know who this is, or need their contact details, please call your local NZNO Office.

If further support is required you will be referred to the appropriate NZNO staff person:

  • Industrial issues affecting a group of employees will generally be referred to an Industrial Organiser
  • Industrial issues affecting a single member will generally be referred to an Individual Case Organiser
  • Professional issues will generally be referred to a Professional Nursing Advisor
  • Campaign or project issues will be referred to the staff person responsible for that project

Should your issue require further expertise you may be referred to a:

Legal Advisor specialising in employment law and medico-legal law, they become directly involved with members when there is a formal legal investigation.

Competence Advisor who will work with individual nurses undergoing competence and health committee reviews with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.

Complaints

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) adopts a quality improvement process to its operations. NZNO wishes to encourage open, honest, respectful and supportive communications between its staff and members.

On occasions members may feel unsupported or unable to resolve ongoing difficulties. This may impede and indeed prevent the ongoing business of NZNO and lead to a situation whereby the member wishes to lodge a complaint.

NZNO has a member complaint about staff member policy which  will provide guidance to NZNO members and staff in the resolution of such issues.
