Scholarships and grants
The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) offers several sources of funding in the form of scholarships and grants.
NZNO administers the Nursing Education and Research Foundation (NERF) and the Gretta and Harry Hamblin Trust and other NZNO grants are available through our National and regional offices.

Closing Dates: 14 February, 30 June, 31 October
Approx Amount Available: $200
Eligibility: RM, RN, EN/NA or all Student Nurses/Midwives from Year 1, 2nd semester onwards
Criteria/Comments:
- Textbooks relevant to nursing/midwifery education or practice
- Official proof of enrolment required
- Copy of official booklist (students) or letter from line manager (qualified staff) required

H212.02 Undergraduate study
Eg Bachelor of Nursing, Nurse Assistant Course
Closing Dates: 14 February, 30 June, 31 October
Approx Amount Available: $300
Eligibility : Student Nurses/Midwives from Year 1, 2nd semester onwards undertaking Bachelor of Nursing or Nurse Assistants study
Criteria/Comments:
- Course approved by Nursing Council of New Zealand
- Official proof of enrolment required
- Official copy of student results for previous year/ semester required as evidence to support application

Approx Amount Available: $2,000 - $10,000
Eligibility: RN, RM, EN/NA or Student Nurses/Midwives
Criteria/Comments:
- Contributes to nursing/healthcare in New Zealand
- Recognition of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with implications for Māori considered
- Robust design & methodology
- Evidence of ethics approval Researcher time will only be paid if paid time for research is not in job description & applicant not in full time employment
- Does not cover computer hardware/electronic equipment

Criteria/Comments:
- Travel nationally or internationally for the purpose of benefiting nursing/midwifery/healthcare in New Zealand
- Itinerary including dates and location. Purpose of travel and costs must be included
- Does not include travel for purposes of undergraduate or postgraduate study

Approx Amount Available: $1000 - $5000
Eligibility: Conference for RN, RM, EN/NA or Student Nurses/Midwives
Criteria/Comments:
- Conference for nurses/midwives and/or student nurses/midwives
- Held in New Zealand (preference given to NZNO affiliated groups)
- Evidence of partnership with Māori in conference planning
- May need to be repaid if conference makes profit.
- NERF/ NZNO logos will need to be included in publicity

- Small amounts of money available quickly for specific one off expenses essential to support study or practice.
- Clearly exceptional and unexpected circumstances.

Approx Amount Available: Total $1000 will be divided between suitable applicants
Eligibility: RM, RN or EN/NA
Criteria/Comments:
- From the Helen M Todd Estate which is managed by Guardian Trust
- Scholarship is for a person or persons, selected by NERF, obtaining a higher qualification in the field of nursing (would include midwifery)

H211.051 Margaret May Blackwell Fellowship - Travel and Study
Closing Dates: Applications close 30 April
Approx Amount Available: $14,000
Eligibility: RN working in child health (0-5 years old)
Criteria/Comments:
- Exemplar, CV + 2 Nominated by employer
- Need to indicate how knowledge gained will be publicised
- Employing agency to be encouraged to grant leave on pay up to 3 months
- Final decision made by Trustees of the Margaret May Blackwell Estate.

(Twice yearly study/scholarship award until 2012)

- Qualified EN or Nurse Assistant or those students studying for Nurse Assistant qualification (in 2nd semester)

- Require to provide "Evidence of enrolment" in Nurse Assistant programme or in the study programme you are undertaking

- NZ RN undertaking postgraduate study related to Perioperative care
- Qualified RN working/studying in the Perioperative area
- Evidence of enrolment in the study programme you are undertaking

H821.17 Effie Redwood Endowment Fund

Approx Amount Available: $5000 will be divided between suitable applicants
Eligibility: EN/NA, Caregivers or Student Nurses
Criteria/Comments:
- To provide financial assistance to individual enrolled nurses/nurse assistants, student nurses or caregivers studying or employed in the Private Aged Care sector.
- Applicants must reside within the boundaries of Warkworth in the North and to Rotorua in the South.
- Evidence of enrolment in the study programme you are undertaking.

Eligibility: RN and students
Criteria/Comments:
- Registered Nurses or Nursing Students taking part in an educational course/s at any college, technical institute, hospital, university or other place of education
- an NZNO current financial member

Award
Up to $300.00 will be offered three times per year for Conference attendance (Ref: H212.06).
Eligibility
Registered Nurses, Registered Midwives or Enrolled Nurses are eligible to apply.
Criteria/Requirements
- Conference attendance will benefit nursing/midwifery/healthcare in New Zealand.
- Evidence of enrolment/attendance is included - receipt required.
- All applications must be typed – hand written applications will not be accepted.
