The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) offers several sources of funding in the form of scholarships and grants.

NZNO administers the Nursing Education and Research Foundation (NERF) and the Gretta and Harry Hamblin Trust and other NZNO grants are available through our National and regional offices.

Eligibility: Conference for RN, RM, EN/NA or Student Nurses/Midwives

  • Conference for nurses/midwives and/or student nurses/midwives
  • Held in New Zealand (preference given to NZNO affiliated groups)
  • Evidence of partnership with Māori in conference planning
  • May need to be repaid if conference makes profit.
  • NERF/ NZNO logos will need to be included in publicity

H821.17 Effie Redwood Endowment Fund

Approx Amount Available: $5000 will be divided between suitable applicants

Eligibility: EN/NA, Caregivers or Student Nurses

Criteria/Comments:

  • To provide financial assistance to individual enrolled nurses/nurse assistants, student nurses or caregivers studying or employed in the Private Aged Care sector.
  • Applicants must reside within the boundaries of Warkworth in the North and to Rotorua in the South.
  • Evidence of enrolment in the study programme you are undertaking.

Approx Amount Available:  Maximum of $250 for members of NZNO for less than two years otherwise up to a maximum of $500

  • Funds amalgamated from relief fund, hardship fund and investment trusts.
  • Unexpected financial hardship (does not cover strike action) not covered by support or welfare agencies.

Approx Amount Available: $500

Category One:  For Registered Nurses. Clarification - this includes Enrolled Nurses and Midwives seeking further qualifications.

Category Two:  For students seeking first nursing or direct entry midwifery qualification.

Category Three:  Unregulated Members.

Eligibility:

  • The Florence Nightingale grant is funded by NZNO - $1 per financial member as at 31 December. 
  • Selection by NMAC.
  • Evidence of Enrolment required.
  • Commenced course/conference by 31st March 2011.
  • Financial member of NZNO as at 31st March 2011.

Award
Up to $300.00 will be offered three times per year for Conference attendance (Ref: H212.06).

Eligibility
Registered Nurses, Registered Midwives or Enrolled Nurses are eligible to apply.

  • Conference attendance will benefit nursing/midwifery/healthcare in New Zealand.
  • Evidence of enrolment/attendance is included - receipt required.
  • All applications must be typed – hand written applications will not be accepted.

Canterbury Members’ Earthquake Relief Fund

About the fund:

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation has allocated $10,000 to support members suffering stress as a result of the recent Canterbury earthquakes. The fund will assist with payments for up to three counselling, professional supervision or psychotherapy sessions to a maximum cost of $375 (incl GST) per applicant. The fund shall remain open until all funds have been allocated or until 30 November 2011 whichever shall occur first.

Eligibility:

Members must be resident and working in the wider Christchurch area (60 Km radius). They must have been resident and working in the area defined during the major earthquake period of September 2010 to the present. Applicants shall have been financial members of NZNO since 1 September 2010.

Criteria:

The counsellor, professional supervisor or psychotherapist must have a recognised professional qualification. Travel costs to attend the sessions shall not be paid.

Process:

Applications must be presented on the appropriate application form, be legible and contain all requested information.
Applications may be received by post or email.

  • Applications will be processed within 10 working days of receipt.
  • The decision will be conveyed to the applicant by letter.
  • There are two methods of payment for successful application;on submission of receipts (clearly identifying the provider) for the sessions the applicant shall paid or the provider may submit invoices directly to NZNO for payment
  • Administration for the earthquake relief fund shall be managed by the Christchurch administration team. Email: chch@nzno.org.nz or telephone 366 0186. All correspondence should include Administrator: earthquake relief fund in the subject line or heading of letters.
