The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) offers several sources of funding in the form of scholarships and grants.

NZNO administers the Nursing Education and Research Foundation (NERF) and the Gretta and Harry Hamblin Trust and other NZNO grants are available through our National and regional offices.

Approx Amount Available:  $200

Eligibility:  RM, RN, EN/NA or all Student Nurses/Midwives from Year 1, 2nd semester onwards

Criteria/Comments:

  • Textbooks relevant to nursing/midwifery education or practice
  • Official proof of enrolment required
  • Copy of official booklist (students) or letter from line manager (qualified staff) required

Eg Bachelor of Nursing, Nurse Assistant Course

Closing Dates: 14 February, 30 June, 31 October

Approx Amount Available:  $300

Eligibility :  Student Nurses/Midwives from Year 1, 2nd semester onwards undertaking Bachelor of Nursing or Nurse Assistants study

Criteria/Comments:

  • Course approved by Nursing Council of New Zealand
  • Official proof of enrolment required
  • Official copy of student results for previous year/ semester required as evidence to support application

Eg Level 700 post-registration courses qualifying

Approx Amount Available: $300

Eligibility: RN, RM or EN/NA

  • Conference/short course will benefit nursing/midwifery or healthcare in New Zealand
  • Evidence of enrolment/attendance receipt required
  • Level 700 post-registration courses qualifying

H211.01 Mary Lambie Memorial Scholarship

Closing Dates: 30 June

Approx Amount Available: Total $1000 will be divided between suitable applicants

Eligibility: RM, RN or EN/NA

Criteria/Comments:

  • From the Helen M Todd Estate which is managed by Guardian Trust
  • Scholarship is for a person or persons, selected by NERF, obtaining a higher qualification in the field of nursing (would include midwifery)

H211.051 Margaret May Blackwell Fellowship - Travel and Study

Closing Dates: Applications close 30 April

Approx Amount Available: $14,000

Eligibility: RN working in child health (0-5 years old)

Criteria/Comments:

  • Exemplar, CV + 2 Nominated by employer
  • Need to indicate how knowledge gained will be publicised
  • Employing agency to be encouraged to grant leave on pay up to 3 months
  • Final decision made by Trustees of the Margaret May Blackwell Estate.

Approx Amount Available: $750 - $1500
(Twice yearly study/scholarship award until 2012)

Eligibility: EN/NA

Criteria/Comments:

  • Qualified EN or Nurse Assistant or those students studying for Nurse Assistant qualification (in 2nd semester)
  • An NZNO current financial member
  • Require to provide "Evidence of enrolment" in Nurse Assistant programme or in the study programme you are undertaking

Eligibility: RN

Criteria/Comments:

  • NZ RN undertaking postgraduate study related to Perioperative care
  • Qualified RN working/studying in the Perioperative area
  • Evidence of enrolment in the study programme you are undertaking

H821.17 Effie Redwood Endowment Fund

Closing Dates: 14 February

Approx Amount Available: $5000 will be divided between suitable applicants

Eligibility: EN/NA, Caregivers or Student Nurses

Criteria/Comments:

  • To provide financial assistance to individual enrolled nurses/nurse assistants, student nurses or caregivers studying or employed in the Private Aged Care sector.
  • Applicants must reside within the boundaries of Warkworth in the North and to Rotorua in the South.
  • Evidence of enrolment in the study programme you are undertaking.

Closing Date: 31 March

Approx Amount Available: $500

Category One:  For Registered Nurses. Clarification - this includes Enrolled Nurses and Midwives seeking further qualifications.

Category Two:  For students seeking first nursing or direct entry midwifery qualification.

Category Three:  Unregulated Members.

Eligibility:

  • The Florence Nightingale grant is funded by NZNO - $1 per financial member as at 31 December. 
  • Selection by NMAC.
  • Evidence of Enrolment required.
  • Commenced course/conference by 31st March 2011.
  • Financial member of NZNO as at 31st March 2011.

H251.02 British Commonwealth Nurses' War Memorial Fund Scholarship

Closing Date: 30 June

Amount Available: $5000

Eligibility: New Zealand registered nurses who are NZ residents

Criteria/Comments:

  • To enhance the professions of nursing and midwifery through scholarships or by such other charitable purposes for the benefit of nurses (NZ residents).
  • To enable the recipient to study outside of NZ (Deed 1952).
  • The recipient will be expected to share the knowledge gained with the wider nursing population upon completion of the scholarship.

Please note that for the 2011 year the cut off date for BCNWMF applications has been extended to 31st of October.  Please ignore the date 30th of  June that is on the form.

NZ Flight Nurses Scholarship Fund

Closing Dates: Applications considered 3 times each year

Amount available: Approx $300 per application

Eligibility:

  • Flight Nurses must have been NZFNA members for at least 12 months and must be actively involved in Flight Nursing.
  • The scholarship will assist members with the costs of conferences, courses or post-graduate study.

Criteria/Comments:

  • Special consideration will be given to applicants doing Tertiary / Post-Grad papers in Aviation related matters, and those presenting at conferences.
  • Receipts and/or copies of study enrolment confirmation will be required before any funds are actually allocated.

Diabetes Nurse Specialist Section Grant

Eg Workshops, conferences, study days, seminars, post graduate study.

Closing Dates: 28 February, 31 July

Approx Amount Available: $6000 per annum shared among successful applicants. Maximum allocation per person of $750 for postgraduate study, conferences etc and a maximum of $100 for an accreditation application.

Eligibility:  Available to current financial members of NZNO who have been Diabetes Nurse Specialist Section members for at least two years.
