Scholarships and grants

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) offers several sources of funding in the form of scholarships and grants.

NZNO administers the Nursing Education and Research Foundation (NERF) and the Gretta and Harry Hamblin Trust and other NZNO grants are available through our National and regional offices.

PLEASE NOTE:  To be eligible for any grants through NERF or NZNO you must have not received any funding within one year of receiving a previous NERF or NZNO scholarship.

Projects/Event Planning

 

H212.05 Conference organisers and/or speakers

Closing Dates: 14 February, 30 June, 31 October

Approx Amount Available: $1000 - $5000

Eligibility: Conference for RN, RM, EN or Student Nurses/Midwives

Criteria/Comments:

  • Conference for nurses/midwives and/or student nurses/midwives
  • Held in New Zealand (preference given to NZNO affiliated groups)
  • Evidence of partnership with Māori in conference planning
  • May need to be repaid if conference makes profit.
  • NERF/ NZNO logos will need to be included in publicity

H212.04 Special Projects

Closing Dates: 14 February, 30 June, 31 October

Approx Amount Available: $1000 - $10000

Eligibility: Project carried out by RN, RM, EN or Student
 Nurses/Midwives

Criteria/Comments:

  • Will contribute to nursing/midwifery or healthcare in New Zealand
  • Detailed timeline & budget required
  • Recognition of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with implications for Māori considered

H251.02 British Commonwealth Nurses' War Memorial Fund Scholarship

Closing Date: 30 June

Amount Available: $5000

Eligibility: New Zealand registered nurses who are NZ residents

Criteria/Comments:

  • To enhance the professions of nursing and midwifery through scholarships or by such other charitable purposes for the benefit of nurses (NZ residents).
  • To enable the recipient to study outside of NZ (Deed 1952).
  • The recipient will be expected to share the knowledge gained with the wider nursing population upon completion of the scholarship.

NNCA Professional Development Grant

Closing Dates: 31 May and 31 August

Approx Amount Available:  Up to $6000

Eligibility:  applicant must be a full member of NNCA member for the past two years.

Criteria/Comments:

  • Courses, seminars, conferences or projects relating to neonatal nursing.
  • Priority will be given to nurses embarking on research or writing for a peer reveiwed journal.

H214 The McCutchan Trust Scholarships and Grants

Closing Date:  31st October

Approx Amount Available: Up to $80,000 will be offered once a year for research/projects/study/seminars that will advance professional nursing practice.

Eligibility:  Registered Nurses are eligible to apply.

Criteria/Comments:

  • Please see the separate document below entitled "Criteria for McCutchan Trust Scholarship Applications" for a full list of criteria and requirements prior to completing the application form.
  • Research Applications complete parts 1, 2 and 6 only
  • Project Applications complete parts 1, 2 and 6 only (project applications include applications for funding to publish research findings)
  • Postgraduate study applicatns complete parts 1, 4 and 6 only
  • Seminar funding applications complete parts 1, 5 and 6 only
