Consumers’ Right to Know (Country of Origin of Food) Bill

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation Tōpūtanga Tapuhi Kaitiaki o Aotearoa  (NZNO) made a second submission to the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) on the Consumers’ Right to Know (Country of Origin of Food) Bill. NZNO supports the Bill its original form but not the recommendations of the interim report on this Bill that recommends country of origin labelling should apply to “only fresh or frozen food and not dried, cured or pickled food”, such as bacon and ham. This objection is on the grounds that consumers need to know if the small goods they are consuming are imported or contain imported products and therefore potentially associated  with public health risks such as AMR and viruses linked to pork.

Privacy Bill

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation Toputanga Tapuhi Kitiaki o Aotearoa made a joint submisson with the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions, the Public Service Organisation and E Tū on the Privacy Bill. The Bill repeals and replaces the Privacy Act 1993, as recommended by the Law Commission's 2011 review of the Act. Its key purpose is to promote people's confidence that their personal information is secure and will be treated properly.
