Expressions of Interest to join the College of Child and Youth Nurses (CCYN) Tapuhitia Ngā Mokopuna Mō Apōpō, (NZNO) Committee

Kia ora tātou

This message is to invite you to consider joining the committee of the College of Child & Youth Nurses (CCYN) | Tapuhitia Ngā Mokopuna Mō Apōpō  (NZNO). There is one current vacancy and there will be two upcoming vacancies in November.

The committee comprises up to eight members working with tamariki and rangatahi in a range of roles, and who come from all around Aotearoa.

The college had its origins as the NZNO Nurses for Children and Young People Section, and the group achieved college status in 2014 and has been a strong voice for the child health nursing workforce and for the tamariki and rangatahi and their whanau that the nurses care for.

This is an opportunity to grow into a nursing leadership role that will support your demonstration of evidence of meeting the 2025 Standards of Competence for Nurses. CCYN committee membership provides numerous opportunities to describe ways of achieving Pou 6 – Rangatiratanga and Leadership. It can also describe other ways that the committee facilitates college members to achieve many of the other Pou. That includes through creating submissions on topics of relevance to child and youth health nurses and those they care for, facilitating access to professional development, etc.

If you are anxious about not knowing others who are already on the committee, recruit a colleague to join with you!! That way you can both orientate to the committee member role together.

You may also like to attend one of our upcoming online hui to see what we get up to before fully committing! The dates for these meetings are 18 August & 29 September 2026 commencing at 730pm. Let us know if this would be of interest to you by emailing secretary.ccyn@gmail.com.

NZNO provides an orientation to support new committee members annually (this will be 1-2 December 2026). The training is in Wellington, and all expenses are covered by NZNO. For some employers, the education may also qualify for study leave.

If you have any questions about the committee’s work, you can contact the committee via secretary.ccyn@gmail.com or Marg Bigsby, the Professional Nursing Advisor who supports the work of the college committee margaret.bigsby@nzno.org.nz.
