The AENN provides educational support and collaborative opportunities for emergency nurses.
The Emergency Nurses Core Curriculum for Advanced Nursing Practice (ENCAP) was developed in 2010, then moved under the umbrella of the College of Emergency Nurses in 2014.
About AENN Study Days
The AENN Study Days are held two or three times each year. In years when the biennial CENNZ Conference occurs, one Study Day is held at the Conference.
All Clinical Nurse Specialists and Nurse Practitioners working in New Zealand emergency departments are welcome - and encouraged - to attend.
The Study Days provide ongoing education and learning in a supportive environment, and opportunity for networking, collaboration, and sharing of experiences at a national level.
The content of the day is managed by the hosting region, and includes:
- Presentation of literature reviews and critique of research articles
- Presentation of case studies – highlighting clinical challenges
- Formal sessions by clinical experts which combine a theoretical and practical component
- Review / introduction of clinical guidelines.
AENN Study Day calendar
- Study Days are free for CENNZ members.
- Non-CENNZ members pay $20 for the day, or can join the college for $25 per year.

AENN Study Day
22 May 2026, 8.00am - 3.00pm
Tauranga Hospital Education Centre
891 Cameron Road

Theme: Above the Shoulders
Tauranga Hospital Emergency Department is hosting a practical, evidence-based study day for Advanced Emergency Nurses, focusing on “above the shoulders” presentations. The programme covers key areas such as eye, ENT conditions and facial injuries delivered through expert teaching, case discussions, and hands-on skill development. It’s a great opportunity to strengthen clinical confidence and connect with ED colleagues from across the region.
Located in the heart of the Bay of Plenty, Tauranga offers a relaxed coastal setting that makes learning feel a little lighter. The hospital sits close to the harbour, with Mauao / Mount Maunganui and its well-loved beaches only a short drive away. With good coffee, local eateries, and easy outdoor spaces nearby, it’s an ideal spot for both professional development and informal networking throughout the day.
Join us for a well-paced, practical study day that blends upskilling with time to share experiences, build relationships, and strengthen our ED community across Aotearoa.
Emergency Nurse Practitioner Network (ENPN)
ENPN is a network of Nurse Practitioners working in Emergency Departments. In addition to the AENN group it was begun by Michael Geraghty (NP) in 2017, and was endorsed by CENNZ at AGM in 2019.
An email contact list and Forums have supported collaboration on professional development and relevant practice issues. Communication within the NP network is currently via an email distribution list. Please email Craig Jenkin to be added to this list: Craig.jenkin@ccdhb.org.nz
Annual Emergency Nurse Practitioner Forum
An annual CENNZ Emergency Nurse Practitioner Forum is held for professional discussion, support, and clinical presentations. It is hosted in Wellington, a central location for travel.
- The forum is free for CENNZ members.
- Non-CENNZ members are welcome to attend for an additional fee.
