Law and Order Committee - Policing (Cost Recovery) Amendment Bill

This bill proposes amendments to the Policing Act 2008 to enable cost recovery for certain Police services where there is a degree of private benefit to the users of the service.

The bill will enable the police to charge for the police vetting services which will be part of the child safety check regulations being implemented as part of the Vulnerable Children’s Act. 3 yearly police vetting will be required for people working with children including nurses, midwives, health care worker who work with children. NZNO, along with other health sector groups,  has expressed concern about the effectiveness and cost of resourcing such checks for regulated health practitioners, who are subject to more rigorous safety checks under the health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.
