Climate change and health

NZNO wants to protect our world from climate damage, because climate change is a justice issue and a health issue too. By taking action on climate change now we can not only protect our environment, but improve our quality of life.

Along with many other prominent New Zealanders, NZNO's President and Kaiwhakahaere signed an open letter to the Prime Minister which pledges support for the New Zealand Government to end oil and gas exploration now, as a vital step in addressing climate change.

November 2015

NZNO members supported the People's Climate March held in November 2015 to ask for urgent action to protect global health, security and life. Shorter working hours, more active transport, less time commuting, more time for family, fresh local food, secure jobs and cleaner cities are all things people actually want!

The People's Climate Marches were the first truly global push for a safer future, but they won't be the last. The people's movement for radically better economy is just starting.

11 top U.S. medical societies have formed a new organization, the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health - made up of family physicians, pediatricians, obstetricians, allergists, internists and other medical experts - and are meeting with lawmakers in Washington DC to discuss their concerns.

The organization has presented a new report, “Medical Alert! Climate Change Is Harming Our Health,” which includes scientific evidence and accounts from doctors who see climate change exacerbating a wide range of health issues.
