The safety standards for children’s nightwear and some daywear items are being upgraded, including new requirements for online sales.

The new standards, published for consultation this week, will be extended to include garments such as boxer shorts of a loose fitting style, infant sleep bags with sleeves and arm openings, and wearable towels and blankets which incorporate a sleeve or an arm opening.

The Ministry notes that where products are offered for online sale, clear fire hazard information must be provided as part of the image and product description.
