NZNO Guideline on Transcribing

FROM Jill Clendon – Nursing Policy Adviser/Researcher
RE NZNO Guideline on Transcribing
DATE DUE Feedback to Jill Clendon Nursing Policy Adviser/Researcher jillc@nzno.org.nz by Tuesday 10th December 2015

NZNO is committed to the representation of members and the promotion of nursing and midwifery. NZNO provides professional leadership and advice in a range of areas.

In the past, NZNO has not supported the practice of transcribing. Traditionally, transcribing has been the responsibility of the prescriber. However, there are situations in which transcribing by regulated health professionals who are non-prescribers may facilitate improved access to and continuity of care. Further, as electronic prescribing becomes increasingly common, the need to transcribe may also increase, particularly in rural and remote areas.

NZNO has sought advice and has modified its position on transcribing. Attached is a set of draft guidelines on transcribing based on this modified position. It is hoped these guidelines will provide clarity for nurses and organisations around the practice of transcribing.

We are seeking your feedback on the guidelines and invite you to please forward this to Jill Clendon by Tuesday December 10th at jillc@nzno.org.nz.
