Maranga Mai! campaign launch

Every nurse, everywhere

Register your interest in attending the online launch of Maranga Mai! – on 12 May 2022, 11am-12.30pm.

On International Nurses Day (12 May 2022) NZNO Tōpūtanga Tapuhi Kaitiaki o Aotearoa will be launching its bold new campaign: Maranga Mai!

‘Maranga Mai’ means ‘Rise Up!’ and this campaign is a call for NZNO members, whatever sector they work in, to come together and take united action. We want to win the political and resourcing commitments needed to address the nursing shortage crisis permanently – and across the whole health sector.

We know nurses, midwives, health care assistants and kaimahi hauora are facing increasing demands and significant shortages in workforce supply. Systemic failure has meant moral injury/distress and burnout across all sectors, not just in the DHBs.  We all know, too, that Māori have relatively very poor health outcomes due to systemic racism and failures to honour te Tiriti in Health.

The campaign will be based on this simple charter of demands (or 'The Five Fixes'): We demand:

  1. te Tiriti actualised within and across the health system
  2. more nurses across the health sector
  3. pay and conditions that meet nurses’ value and expectations
  4. more people training to be nurses
  5. more Māori and Pasifika nurses.

Please register your interest in attending the online launch of the Maranga Mai! campaign on 12 May from 11:00am – 12:30pm. We would like to know you're attending but at this late stage may not get back to you with a link to the launch, which is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87127284781?pwd=TVkxWnpJSTJyY0xoUWg5ZHZmdWRnUT09.

The MC for the launch will be well-known Kiwi comedian Michele A'Court. We know she’ll help make the meeting a lot of fun, but we’ll also be focusing on some very serious matters while we briefly hear from a number of local and overseas speakers.

What has led to these years of struggle and crisis for nurses? How do members feel and what do they want to do? Being union, what power do we have to effect change? What should our aspirations be together as nurses across the whole health sector?

Please come along and be among the first to get behind the Maranga Mai! campaign.
