The focus of this year's Forum is improving understanding of some of the ethical, professional and legal issues arising from the upcoming repeal and replacement of the MH(CAT) Act 1992 – in particular, the move away from risk-based compulsory assessment and treatment and towards capacity for informed consent, as recommended by He Ara Oranga and other issues relating to mental capacity and decision-making for tangata whaiora.
