Nurse Practitioners

Advanced nursing practice differs from expert practice or extended task roles in its scope and sphere of influence and its application of advanced nursing knowledge. Recognition of advanced nursing practice may be through title and/or credentialing mechanisms. Credentialing may be through:

  • Professional Development and recognition programmes
  • Voluntary professional credentialing – NZNO College and Section Accreditation processes
  • Regulatory body credentialing – the Nurse Practitioner registration process.

Until 2006, NZNO certified Nurse Clinicians.

The title Nurse Practitioner is protected and can be used only by those who have been credentialed by the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
