This fellowship is available to Registered Nurses working in child health (0-5 years).

Topic for 2022-2023: Inequities in child health as a result of COVID-19

$9,000 was available for the 2022-2023 year.

Individual nominees will only be eligible for one NERF grant per calendar year (with the exception of the Emergency Grant

Priority will be given to nominees who:

  • Have not received a grant in the previous two years from any source
  • Are not eligible for, or have been turned down for, Health Workforce New Zealand funding
  • And/or are not receiving any financial support from their employer.

Nominations are assessed based on merit, and Fellowship awarded at the discretion of the Commitee.

Margaret May Blackwell Committee

Your nomination will first be assessed by the Margaret May Blackwell Committee, who will at their discretion forward a recommendation to the Nursing Education and Research Foundation (NERF) Board.

The NERF Board will make the final decision. The decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

If you are successful, you will be asked to supply your bank account number.

Eligibility criteria

You must be:

  • A Registered Nurse
  • Working in Child Health (ages 0-5 years)
  • A financial member of NZNO.

Information

  • Your NZNO membership number.

Documents (up to 4MB each file)

  1. A letter of nomination from your Nurse Manager or equivalent. NERF encourages early dialogue with your Nurse Manager (or equivalent). The support of your professional nursing team is a key element in maximising the success of any Fellowship that is awarded.
  2. TWO referee statements from nurse colleagues who can make statements about their observations of your practice which include their opinion of:
    • Your ability to meet your stated objectives and so benefit child health in relation to this year’s topic
    • Your ability to publicise the information you gain in written articles and/or speaking engagements to enhance professional nursing understanding knowledge and practice.
  3. Your Curriculum Vitae, which must be supplied inside the Standard CV Template
  4. A detailed budget which covers travel, accommodation and all other costs, including compulsory travel insurance.
  5. Your itinerary which details:
    • Expected travel dates
    • Locations and organisations you plan to visit
    • Your learning goals at each
    • How achievement of these learning goals will develop your practice and benefit child health/tamariki ora.
    Note: Travel may take place over a period of up to three (3) months and may be broken up into smaller non-consecutive periods if appropriate. Several smaller trips may be more appropriate and must comply with any travel restrictions that apply because of pandemic management.
Written answers (maximum 500 words each)
  1. Details of your professional involvement in NZNO e.g. membership of a College or Section, service as a committee member
  2. Details of other professional organisations to which you belong, and your involvement with them
  3. Details of your professional affiliations, e.g. Ora Taiao
  4. An outline of your understanding of this year's fellowship topic which includes reference to relevant research, policy, education and practice documents. Your outline should include a critical analysis of the status of child health/tamariki ora and issues such as access, inequities and appropriateness of services impacting child health/tamariki ora status within Aotearoa/NZ
  5. A description of your engagement with alternative models of child health/tamariki ora within the context of Aotearoa/NZ
  6. An outline of the purpose and rationale of your plan which lists the specific goals you expect to achieve
  7. An outline of your plans to publicise the outcomes from your Fellowship.
