The Aotearoa College of Diabetes Nurses wish to offer a grant to a Māori or Pacific registered nurse (RN), or RN currently employed by a Māori or Pacific health provider, to further their diabetes nursing knowledge and skills and support advanced nursing practice. The grant is to be used to fund a post-graduate paper, ideally with a diabetes focus.

Available amount: Up to $3500 is available to fund a post-graduate paper along with associated study costs for one grant recipient.

1. Proof that during the period of strike action the applicant was rostered to work and did not get paid (payslip).
2. Demonstration of hardship e.g. inability to cover necessities (not specific bills).
3. Validation that the applicant is the principal wage earner in the household.
4. More than one parent (in the household) lost wages due to taking the industrial or strike action.
5. Having one or more dependants.
6. The affected member makes the application for themselves, not on behalf of another member.

Criteria:

The purpose of this fund is to provide members with assistance for professional development activities to enhance health care outcomes/provision in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Members can apply for the following:

• Option 1: Fees for undergraduate and postgraduate study
• Option 2: Registration fees for ongoing education such as; short courses, conferences, seminars, workshops
• Option 3: Textbooks related to study
• Option 4: Travel and accommodation
• Option 5: Other course related costs may be considered.

The fund is not available for any mandatory training required by an employer which is the employer’s responsibility to provide or fund.

To apply you must be a financial member of NZNO as at 1 January in the year for which you seek funding.

The activity for which you seek funding must:

• Be relevant to the practice of nursing in New Zealand
• Contribute to better health outcomes for the people of Aotearoa
• Not be part of employer mandatory training.

Each year, the Neonatal Nurses College Aotearoa (NNCA) allocates up to $10,000 to support neonatal nurses through Professional Development Grants, with a maximum of $1,000 per recipient, awarded at the discretion of the NNCA Executive Committee.

Grants may be used to support postgraduate study, courses, seminars, conferences, or research projects related to neonatal nursing. Priority is given to nurses who are beginning research and/or are preparing articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

How to nominate

Nurses may nominate themselves or a colleague at any time throughout the year. Nominations are reviewed quarterly at executive meetings and the remaining 2025 meeting dates are:

• 21 August

• 13–14 November

Each nomination must outline why the nominee demonstrates excellence in their practice with specific examples, including how their values, behaviour, and clinical actions have positively impacted patient care.

In collaboration with our award sponsors Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, the NNCA, Te Wāhanga Rangahau Tapuhi (NZNO) is awarding three $1,000 awards to Neonatal Nurses to support professional development. 

This Award recognises excellence in the fields of Quality and Innovation, Equity in Action, and Emerging Leader. Its purpose is to assist Neonatal Nurses in professional development, thus benefiting care provision for neonates and their whānau.
