NZNO welcomes new Diploma in Enrolled Nursing

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) is pleased that the Government has kept its election promise and clarified changes to the status and qualifications of Enrolled Nurses said Chair of NZNO Enrolled Nurses Section, Robyn Hewlett.

“Enrolled Nurses are a valuable part of the health workforce and well qualified and regulated Enrolled Nurses are an important component of every health setting” she said.

"Enrolled Nurses are an integral part of a good health care continuum - a broad skill mix of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Health Care Assistants/Caregivers will ensure the right care is given in the right place at the right time.

“Enrolled nurses will enable flexibility, innovation and efficiency in the provision of quality care and that will contribute to positive patient outcomes.” said Robyn Hewlett.

“There is now a clear career path available for people wanting to enter the nursing workforce at any level.”

NZNO welcomes the Nursing Council’s commitment to educate all Enrolled Nurses (and former Nurse Assistants) to a single set of competencies and scope of practice. A consistent qualification will mean consistent quality care.

NZNO is pleased with the Nursing Council outcome and consultation process, and is working closely with the Council on the transition arrangements. Enrolled Nurses are looking forward to discussing the new system at their upcoming conference.
